“You are what you eat!” Hsinchu at the Table showcases the diverse food culture of Hsinchu, explores Hsinchu’s identity in history — Hsinchu what to eat? How to eat? Why we eat?
The exhibition has four main sections: 1. Where do Hsinchu people eat? What do they say about food? Eating habits are closely related to culture & languages. Hsinchu has unique geographical features such as wetlands, alluvial plains, hills and mountains. The interactive infographic design presents the relationship of agricultural products, ethnic groups and terrain. 2. Hsinchu food memories Through the designs of different “preserved food” glass jars, the food stories from different people in Hsinchu are displayed. It also creates a metaphor of preserving time. 3. How do different ethnic groups eat? By simulating different “food trays”, the props design shows unique recipes and ingredients. We hope the audience could use five senses to experience the richness and diversity of food culture. 4. Taste of Hsinchu According to the “Taiwanese Flavor Type Study,” Taiwan’s common seasoning methods can be classified into 17 main flavor types. Information graphics design presents the secret of different Taiwanese flavors.
